  Embracing Change

Isaiah 1:19 (NKJV)
If you are willing and obedient, You shall eat the good of the land…

Francois de la Rochefoucauld coined the phrase, “The only thing constant in life is change”. As we go through life, this is a reality for all of us. The world we live in is moving so quickly and things change very rapidly. Technology used to take years to change but now, within a few months, there are changes and new things are developed. As we look around, we also see changes in fashion, the economy, lifestyle, etc. You name it, and wherever you look changes are taking place!

Certain changes we embrace and like, but generally speaking, we do not like change when it requires a major adjustment on our part or when it causes a disruption to our current lifestyle. We like to be in control of our lives and circumstances. In other words, we like changes that help us as long as they don’t involve sacrifice, discomfort or even pain. We like to stay in what is comfortable.

Change is necessary for growth! It is true that all change is not growth but all growth does involve change – it forces us out of our comfort zone! Although uncomfortable, this is the place where growth takes place. You cannot grow if you are not willing to change. God wants us to remain flexible to the changes he wants to bring in our lives.

At the end of 2011, God has brought about some major changes in my life as my family relocated back to the USA after 18 years in Asia. He took us out of our comfort zone and brought us back to the place of living on the edge of faith and dependency upon Him. In my flesh, it was not easy but there is an expectation that as we walk in obedience to God, He will bring about growth in our lives and in the Kingdom of God through our obedience in being willing to embrace change.

Friends, what changes is God wanting to make in your life in 2012? Will you be open and allow him to bring about those changes? Will you embrace change and walk in obedience to what God is wanting to do in you? Whether they are internal or external changes, we have to embrace them to see growth and progression in our lives. Paul said this about himself,

Phillipians 3:13-14 (NKJV)
13 Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, 14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

My prayer for you, for my own life and family is that as we walk in obedience and embrace change, and like Paul, pressing on in the high call and in the pursuit of God, that great growth will come forth in our lives and through us into the lives of others in 2012!

With love,
